Former U.S. President Donald Trump attributed his survival of an assassination attempt on Saturday to either “luck or God.”
In a joint interview, Trump recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “I’m not supposed to be here. I’m supposed to be dead,” as reported by the New York Post.
Trump shared with the Washington Examiner that a spontaneous gesture likely saved his life. “I turned to point at a poster about immigration, and that moment probably made the difference,” he said. “The reality of what happened is just now sinking in.”
Reflecting on the incident, Trump noted, “I rarely look away from the crowd. If I hadn’t done that at that precise moment, we wouldn’t be having this conversation today.”
According to the Post, Trump recounted a doctor’s astonishment at his survival, describing it as a “miracle.”
