President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to show greater compassion towards their neighbors and extend charity to all in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.
Addressing journalists after participating in Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos on Sunday, the President emphasized that sacrifices are essential for the nation’s progress.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu called on Nigerians to dedicate their time to the country’s growth and well-being.
“The Chief Imam has enlightened us on the path of sacrifice. Being a good citizen involves responsibilities. What actions must we take to be committed members of our society? It involves sacrifices—loving your country, loving your neighbors, sharing with each other, and always being grateful to Almighty God,” President Tinubu stated.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Suleiman Oluwatoyin, who led the prayers, reiterated the need for more love, sacrifice, and care for the poor and vulnerable.
“Our leaders, such as the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, among others, dedicated their knowledge, wealth, sweat, and even their lives to the development of our country. Their efforts were aimed at nation-building.
“We must ensure their sacrifices are not in vain. It is our duty to follow their footsteps to ensure Nigeria continues to thrive,” he said.
The Chief Imam also urged citizens to pray for the President, asking God Almighty to grant him the strength and wisdom to fulfill his vision for a prosperous nation.
