Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has approved the release of N8 billion for key infrastructural projects at the newly established Kogi State University in Kabba.
The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, announced this during a press conference in Lokoja, explaining that the funds would be used to construct a Senate building, a Faculty of Science building, and male and female hostels. He added that contractors had already been mobilized and construction work would commence within the next two weeks.
Jones highlighted that the Ododo administration is committed to building on the foundation laid by former Governor Yahaya Bello, particularly in the education sector. He noted that Kogi State has consistently prioritized education, with the current administration determined to maintain and even exceed the 30 percent budgetary allocation to the sector.

In addition to the university projects, Governor Ododo has approved N316 million for bursary awards to support 8,750 Kogi indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country. Among these beneficiaries, 201 Law students will receive N300,000 each, while the remaining students will be awarded N30,000 each. Jones explained that the selected students were those who had successfully uploaded all required verification documents, out of more than 40,000 applicants.
The governor has also allocated over N600 million for the payment of WAEC fees for 18,734 students in public schools. According to Jones, the final verification and disbursement processes are currently ongoing.
“These efforts demonstrate Governor Ododo’s unwavering commitment to education,” Jones said, emphasizing that the administration is determined to make education accessible and impactful for all citizens of Kogi State.
