Senator Ali Ndume has spoken out about his removal as the Chief Whip of the Senate, asserting that his actions did not justify his dismissal.
Ndume was removed after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Two days later, he also declined the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Tourism, citing a lack of experience in the field.
Addressing the issue from his hometown of Maiduguri, Ndume defended his comments, saying, “I did not say anything wrong. I stand by all my statements.
The people are not wrong by speaking the truth and standing by the truth.” He expressed hope that the president would take measures to alleviate the people’s suffering.
Ndume emphasized that his removal was an act of God and held no grudges, explaining, “I did not contest to be the chief whip.
I contested to be one of the Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and God granted me that victory.”
Rejecting the tourism committee role, he stated, “I’m inexperienced in that. I don’t know anything about tourism. I would prefer to remain an ordinary member so that I can learn.”
Ndume, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), mentioned he would consult his constituents before making any decisions about his party affiliation.
He added that he delayed his response to mourn a family member’s passing.
