Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State, reassured Edo indigenes in Hamburg, Germany, of his commitment to transforming Edo into a first-world sub-national region. This event marked the latest in his series of engagements with the Edo Diaspora across Europe.
Accompanied by his running mate, Barr Osarodion Ogie, Ighodalo emphasized their plan to build upon the achievements of previous administrations. He unveiled his “Pathway to Prosperity for All” manifesto, outlining the steps needed to propel the state forward.
Speaking to a packed hall, Ighodalo stated, “Our state has a rich history of producing nationally renowned individuals. The last eight years have seen significant progress, and we must continue to build on this foundation. Reverting to past shortcomings would be a disservice to everyone. We must solidify and advance the reforms initiated by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.”
Ighodalo assured that if elected, his administration would prioritize security, law, and order. He also emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and accessibility in governance. “Edo State must lead by example in law and order. Our ‘Pathway to Prosperity for All’ outlines a clear strategy to make Edo a first-world sub-national within Nigeria,” he declared.
Ighodalo expressed confidence in Edo’s potential, citing the global success of its indigenes. He criticized the “home boy” narrative, asserting that contributions to Edo’s growth are valid regardless of one’s geographical location. “Edo is blessed with talented individuals worldwide. We must leverage this to achieve our goals,” he said.
During the Q&A session, Ighodalo highlighted security as his administration’s top priority and committed to the return of looted artefacts to the Palace, referencing a prior declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adding to the night’s discussions, Ighodalo’s wife, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, pledged to hold her husband accountable for his promises, especially those concerning women, youth, children, and the vulnerable. Her commitment was met with enthusiastic applause.
